4 Medical TV shows to binge-watch in 2022

medical shows on TV

There are some days we wish to take a break from our busy lifestyle and enjoy a laid-back day, from binging a tv show to going out with friends and family it could be anything. The ultimate goal is to relax and rejuvenate for the days ahead. If your idea of a laid-back day is a medical tv show which can not only provide entertainment but is also not far from reality, we have just the list for you!

ER

Written by Michael Crichton, ER is a medical drama that follows the ups and downs of life in a Chicago hospital emergency room. Each episode depicts a different day in the ER. It portrays everything from the spectacular to the ordinary and from joyful to heartbreaking. Frenetic pacing, intertwined plot threads, and emotional rollercoasting are employed to effectively reflect the intense environment found in ERs. The show even depicts the hardship of medical students on their path to becoming doctors.

One of the signposts of the medical genre, ER never repeated any of its cases. In each of its 331 episodes, patients came with new injuries. One can only marvel at the writing and the writers.

ER is one of those shows that stands the test of time. It became a reigning sensation when it debuted on Hulu in 2018. Also, if you weren't already excited, this is the show that launched George Clooney! ER stands out among the crowd and is one of the best tv shows for doctors in 2022.

Scrubs

Can a comedy medical show be more realistic and factually correct than those with more thrilling and captivating storylines? Yes, it can! Scrubs is the proof. It manages to capture the residency training process and the dynamics of a hospital effortlessly.

Set at the fictional Sacred Heart hospital in California, John "J.D" Dorian navigates the perplexing world of medicine with the support of his closest buddy, his fellow rookie doctors, and the pompous, but bright attending physician he regards as his mentor.

One of the funniest hospital comedies ever, Scrubs, takes the seriousness of the hospital series like ER and gives it a wacky spin. You would be amazed to know that Scrubs was not shot in a studio. The team rented the entirety of an abandoned hospital, and the crew practically lived there. Over time, they developed into a big family, and their bond is reflected in the series, making it more convincing and natural.

The Scrubs team were also innovators and regularly thought out of the box. The most common are inner monologues, which help us get to know and understand the characters much better. Following that are slapstick gags, which frequently go to extremes, necessitating the makers to use stunt guys. If you are looking for a Doctor tv series that can make you laugh but is also factually correct, this is the one!

House

The series follows the life of Gregory House (Hugh Laurie), an anti-social, painkiller addict, witty and arrogant medical doctor with only half a muscle in his right leg. He and his crack team of medical doctors work to cure complex and rare diseases in severely ill ordinary Americans.

The show, however, does not rank very highly on the reality scale as Dr. House's constant pill-popping and inappropriate behavior would surely lose him his medical license. Furthermore, one small group of doctors performs all of the tests, focuses on one patient at a time, and deals with one-in-a-million cases each episode. How can that be possible? BUT, it's a brilliant medical show if you can look past that!

It is a fantastic show with some fantastic writing. In terms of medical jargon, it's a little above the average layperson's head, but the characters, plot, and script more than makeup for any doubts about a diagnosis. House is the show's true star, but the team of doctors with whom he collaborates add dimension and depth to his character.

Quacks

If there ever was a medical show that would qualify as underrated, it would be Quacks. Set in Victorian London, Quacks is a story of four pioneers, friends, and rivals fighting to make a mark on the world and save lives. It's funny, intelligent, historical, amusing, and hysterical!

The series follows three protagonists, a dentist, a surgeon, and a physiatrist. Charles Dickens also makes an appearance. They go around their own ways to rise in the world, but the story keeps them gelled together.

A very well-researched show, Quacks is British comedy at its finest. The most disappointing thing about the show is that it got canceled after one season, and we may never know why!

That concludes our list of best medical shows a healthcare professional should watch in 2022. Would you like to know more shows like Quacks that might be less popular but are amazing?
